AN UNUSUAL ABERLOUR – Score: 6.5/10
What I love about visiting Col de Cygne in Brussels is the opportunity to taste old bottlings without breaking the bank.
Here, I am about to savour this old 5-year-old Aberlour in their garden, accompanied by a nice little Aladino cigar.
What makes this Aberlour particularly special is that it’s aged in bourbon casks. This is a curiosity for those of us used to the predominantly sherry-aged Aberlours of today.
This whisky offers fresher aromas, focusing on orchard fruits, fresh walnuts, and green mint. The finish is subtly woody without being too dominant.
The length on the palate is average. One might lament the somewhat watery texture and the low aromatic intensity, but overall, it remains an interesting experience.
