JOURNEY THROUGH THE GERMAN COUNTRYSIDE – Score: 5.5/10
Between 2009 and 2015, Bowmore delivered six batches of Tempest, each aged in first-fill bourbon casks.
Regarding the labeling, it’s worth noting that the royal blue of the first three versions was replaced by a less regal blue from the fourth version onwards.
But as the saying goes, it’s not about the bottle, but the enjoyment and pleasure it brings. So let’s taste this Tempest, the first of its name.
Unlike the following versions (notably the second and fifth), this one is significantly less briny and has a more bitter finish. Surprising herbal notes reminiscent of German absinthe are present, blending with acacia honey and maple syrup. The peat is light but not as briny as one might hope.
A less refined version than its successors, leaving me slightly disappointed.
