Bruichladdich 10 years

AND IF IT WAS BETTER BEFORE? – Score: 7/10

The Bruichladdich distillery has had a tumultuous history, changing hands no fewer than eight times. Currently, it is owned by the French spirits group Rémy Cointreau, which acquired it from the independent bottler Murray McDavid in 2012. Murray McDavid had revived the distillery in 2000 after five years of closure.

Everyone appreciates the work of Jim McEwan as the master distiller during the Murray McDavid era. But tonight, we are going to discover a version prior to Bruichladdich’s closure under the era of Whyte & Mackay.

A ten-year-old Bruichladdich aged in bourbon casks brings us more traditional notes from that period, such as yellow lemon, white pepper, and fresh cereal. The finish lingers on a hint of pepper and yellow sulfur.

The result is rather satisfying and within the standards of that time.
