FROM THE OLD TO NEW CALEDONIA – Score: 7/10
An exceptional evening that led me to one of the most prestigious bottles of its time: Bunnahabhain’s Auld Acquaintance.
This bottle, produced in a limited run of two thousand and two in 2002, contains a spirit distilled in 1968, meaning it spent thirty-two years aging in the bottle.
Expectations are high for this bottle, whose reputation precedes it. Time will tell if that reputation is justified or overrated.
The texture is rather light and refreshing, carrying notes of sun-kissed fruits such as papaya and orange. Midway, caramel weaves in and drifts toward a powdery finish.
A mixed tasting experience and, I must admit, somewhat disappointing for a whisky lacking in character.
