Bunnahabhain 2011 10 years – Aonadh

CHOCOLATE & RAISIN – Score: 7/10

Ah, Bunnahabhain—a complicated story. It is the kind of distillery one holds dear, yet one that, objectively, lacks the credentials to be considered a true benchmark. And yet, the finest whisky I have ever had was a Bunnahabhain. Still, its production remains far too inconsistent to grant it that status.

Tonight, we turn our attention to this Aonadh edition. A dual maturation, transitioning from a sherry cask to a port cask, and bottled at cask strength—56.2%.

The result is a satisfying one. The nose plunges straight into rich red port, a sensation confirmed on the palate, where dried raisins and dark chocolate form a harmonious duo. A delicate dusting of cocoa powder lingers, accompanied by a touch of light, pleasant licorice.

All in all, a rather successful expression—one that proves quite enjoyable.
