A CONFECTIONERY IN A CIVET – Score: 9/10
Not all Caol Ila whiskies are alike, and one may encounter both the finest and the most mediocre expressions. However, when it is the Blackadder bottler presenting us with a Caol Ila, one can consider the risk of disappointment to be minimal.
Thus, let us take a chance by opening this Caol Ila aged in Pedro Ximenez casks and in a Hogshead.
The result is breathtaking, a bouquet of flavors exploding one after another upon our palate.
The sugarcane and caramel prepare the palate for the monstrous smoke emanating from this whisky. The finish is equally smoky, where shaved licorice and fresh mint twirl.
A true delight, this Caol Ila will enchant enthusiasts of the genre at an altogether reasonable price (approximately €120).
