RICH PRUNE JUICE – Score: 7.5/10

Today, we turn our attention to a distillery that has captured our hearts—or at least, this bottling from the venerable Scottish house of Cadenhead has. The distillery in question is Dailuaine. This type of distillery, primarily producing for the blended whisky market, is little known among single malt enthusiasts simply because no bottles bearing its own name are produced, except for the Flora & Fauna series.

Dailuaine typically produces whiskies characterized by orchard fruits. Here, this version is aged in sherry casks (likely Pedro Ximénez, given the color of the beverage).

The tasting exceeds our expectations and surprises us with an unsuspected richness. The whisky is laden with prune and chicory that envelop the palate, followed by noble wood notes, all set against a powdery backdrop. The finish, still as woody, is a tad too peppery.

A pleasing whisky in small doses but can quickly become cloying if consumed excessively… much like a Pedro Ximénez, after all.
