Dans la série Wood Expression, je demande le finish en fût de Rhum… “Ah, il y en a deux ? Eh bien donnez moi le premier !”
En effet, il y a deux versions du Springbank fini en fût de Rhum et celui que j’aurai le plaisir de goûter pour vous ce soir est la version distillée en 1989 de 12 ans d’âge.
Une bouteille qui actuellement se trouve aux alentours de 600€ sur le marché et plus de 1000€ outre-atlantique.
C’est dire la popularité de Springbank et la folie spéculative qui gagne certains investisseurs sur le whisky de Campbeltown.
Intéréssons-nous au produit plutôt qu’au prix et voyons ce que ce Springbank a dans le ventre.
L’esprit Springbank est au rendez-vous avec sa signature épicées et fumée. Elle s’accompagne de notes de pailles fraîches, de vanille, de sirop de Liège mais surtout de miel intense. La texture est huileuse rappelant la paraffine.
La finale sera légèrement boisée et poivrée laissant une pointe très légère d’amertume dans le gosier.
Un whisky de bonne facture mais clairement surévalué si l’on ne prend que le critère gustatif.

The Springbank spirit is present with its signature spicy and smoky notes. It is accompanied by fresh straw, vanilla, Liege syrup, but above all, intense honey. The texture is oily, reminiscent of paraffin.
The finish is slightly woody and peppery, leaving a very light hint of bitterness in the throat.
A good quality whisky, but clearly overvalued if we only consider the taste criterion.
