A HARVEST WHISKY – Score: 7/10
We are now on the eighth batch of this legendary series of GlenAllachie 10 Year Old Cask Strength.
The batches have been consistent since batch #5, which saw the mix of Sherry, Virgin Oak, and Rioja adopted by Billy Walker’s distillery.
This edition follows the same recipe. However, a similar recipe does not necessarily guarantee the same quality. Batch #5 was perhaps the most successful of all (despite the accolades received by the fourth volume).
This batch, however, is less balanced than its illustrious predecessor. While we still find the familiar notes of cherries and dark chocolate, the grape is significantly more pronounced, disrupting the balance and making it more wine-like. The finish is also marked by tannins and wood, with an unwelcome menthol note at this stage.
Nevertheless, it remains a perfectly acceptable whisky with an excellent quality-to-price ratio.
