Glenfiddich 12 years (2010’s)

ALMOND AND PEAR TART – Score: 7/10

Sometimes, it is good to return to the fundamentals of single malt whisky — those we often overlook because we have tasted so many rare expressions that a Glenfiddich 12 Year Old no longer excites our palate. The kind of whisky we all believe we know intimately, simply because it is so ubiquitous on supermarket shelves.

Here, we are presented with an earlier version, dating from the 2010s (already fifteen years ago, indeed), which transports us back to a not-so-distant past.

Surprisingly, despite its lightness, this whisky is brimming with complexity. The texture is less watery than I remembered, even displaying a slight waxiness. Dried fruits take center stage — a constant feature of Glenfiddich — but the fruity notes are not far behind, with green pear and a hint of bergamot. The finish is slightly peppery and powdery, yet not in an unpleasant way.

Ultimately, this is a very respectable choice, both for those beginning their journey into the world of malt whiskies and for enthusiasts who appreciate subtle and delicate drams.
