A VEGETAL BREAKFAST – Score: 7/10
A brief return to Islay and its now-iconic distillery, Kilchoman. This young yet already renowned distillery will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2025—a small milestone well worth raising a glass to. One might even hope for a pleasant surprise this year, perhaps a first-ever 20-year-old bottling. We can dream.
In the meantime, let us turn our attention to a single cask, distilled in 2007 and bottled exclusively for the German market. A classic bourbon cask, aged five years and bottled at 56.2% ABV.
This is a highly cereal-driven whisky, with a texture that leans toward milky or even waxy. Leguminous notes are present as well, wrapped in the characteristic peat smoke for which Kilchoman is known.
A whisky that holds no great surprises from Kilchoman, but remains pleasant and true to the distillery’s signature style.
