A FAMILY BARBECUE – Score: 7/10
To paraphrase an Ivorian saying: Kilchoman whiskies may come together, but they do not share the same price. This is the second Kilchoman in a row I’ve tasted, and although both were matured in bourbon casks, they differ greatly.
This particular expression is a vatting of three casks from 2007, each aged for five years. The whisky is bottled at a respectable 59.3%, which is within the expected range for its age.
The flavor profile is entirely distinct from the previous one. Here, we discover a dram characterized by notes of meat, pepper, and salt, which blend harmoniously before giving way to Kilchoman’s signature touch—woody ash.
An enjoyable whisky that stays true to the spirit of the Triskel distillery’s production.
