Kilchoman Club – 2nd Edition

A STERILE COMPLEXITY – 6.5/10

Kilchoman, ever prolific with its special releases, presents its “Club Edition” annually. These are often blends of casks sold at twice the price of their standard bottles.

The version tasted tonight is the second edition, crafted from seven bourbon and sherry casks, each with a minimum age of five years, and bottled at 58.2%.

In 2013, two thousand bottles were produced, as usual, sold exclusively through the online shop. Stocks typically sell out within an hour of release.

But how does this series truly measure up? That is the question we aim to answer with this tasting.

The initial palate is fresh and oily, delivering notes of paraffin and green vegetables. Gradually, the signature ashiness emerges (albeit less pronounced than usual), giving way to a finish of white pepper and bitter citrus peel.

While undeniably complex, the profile overwhelms me with its bitterness.
