THE FALL OF A TIGHTROPE WALKER – Score: 5.5/10
Linkwood has always been, for me, a distillery producing an honest and pleasant whisky; in any case, my tastings of Linkwood have always brought satisfaction. I have not yet found the rare gem among them, but I have never been disappointed by any.
I am therefore eager to experience this Linkwood 2008, aged thirteen years in bourbon casks and bottled by that excellent independent bottler, Thompson Brothers, at 52%.
Considering the excellent past selections of Phil and Simon Thompson, I am looking forward to the session.
Lovely notes of roasted almonds and marzipan accompanied by fresh peanuts prepare the palate. The beginning, certainly promising, is quickly overtaken by more intense flavors of yellow grapefruit, then, even more unpleasant, sulfur, persisting on an increasingly peppery finish.
My disappointment is twofold because it is the first Linkwood that displeases me, and unfortunately, it happens with this bottler whom I appreciate. But well, every distillery has its missteps.
