Octomore 2006 10 years

OCTOLIFE – Score: 8/10

The more I taste Octomore, the more I realize that it’s a brand of extremes. It’s either magnificent or dreadful (at least, for my humble palate).

Sampling another Octomore (the ten-year-old from 2016) feels a bit like flipping a coin. Anything could happen.

This particular release underwent double maturation: initially aged in bourbon casks before being finished in Grenache Blanc casks, a vigorous grape variety known for producing fresh, vibrant wines.

Yet, this finishing step leaves little noticeable impact on the final result. The dominant notes remain those of bourbon casks—vanilla and cereals (mostly rye). The texture is pleasantly rich and oily, with a straightforward peat that is assertive without being overwhelming.

A beautifully balanced version of Octomore with a hint of spice, ideal for fans of the style.
