A DAMP MATCH – Score: 5.5/10

We continue our journey through time with this Royal Brackla from the 1990s.

Royal Brackla isn’t particularly popular on the continent, but it was the first distillery to receive a royal warrant in 1835.

Founded by Captain William Fraser—infamously known for his irritable nature—Royal Brackla produces a light and fruity whisky.

Tonight’s bottle is an eight-year-old with no specific details regarding its maturation, bottled at 40%, which clearly indicates mass production, without a doubt.

The texture is watery, as expected, much like many whiskies of that era, often supplied to blenders like Knockando. The notes are honeyed with hints of fresh almonds. The finish is sulfurous and woody.

A rather unremarkable whisky, made to appeal to the masses, and typical of a challenging period for distilleries.
