Springbank 1995 27 years – cask #472

FALL INTO A STEELWORKS – Score: 6.5/10

The Blackadder house was founded in 1995 by two whisky enthusiasts, Robin Tucek and John Lamond, who made it their mission to offer us unaltered liquids, just as they come from the cask. This is why you will notice a more or less pronounced sediment in Blackadder bottles.

Tonight, we are opening a bottle remarkable for its rarity: a 27-year-old Springbank 1995. Released under the “Statement” series, this Springbank was aged in a sherry cask, though no further details are provided about the specific type of sherry.

There is no doubt that the distillate is of high quality and will likely appeal to many aficionados. For my part, however, the balance between wood and spices is far too dominant, rendering it slightly cloying. The finish is heavily marked by Marmite-like notes, making it weighty on the palate and tiresome to digest.

Considering the purchase price, this was a major gustatory disappointment.
