A BUTTER WITH ESPELETTE PEPPER – Score: 8/10
An exclusive evening spent with friends, indulging in this week’s splurge with a bottle of 25-year-old Springbank from the “Private Bottling” series.
This series is mainly intended for cask purchases by wine merchants or wealthy individuals and often offers some lovely gems.
Aging in bourbon casks gives us a glimpse of a light and floral whisky. Vanilla is, of course, present in this tasting, accompanied by a generous dose of spiced butter. Maple syrup hovers over this pastry-like nuance, adding a touch of sweetness to this rich liquid.
A wonderful tasting experience that brings prestige to the Springbank distillery. Regulars of the basic expressions might be slightly surprised not to find the distillery’s usual lightly smoky style, but for me, that’s far from a drawback.
