BETWEEN THE ROSE GARDEN AND THE VEGETABLE PLOT – Score: 6/10

Let us venture a little beyond the heart of Scotland and explore one of the many islands that compose this land of whisky. The island in question is Mull, and we shall journey more precisely to its northern reaches, to a distillery named Tobermory, which produces not one but two distinct whiskies.

One, under the Ledaig marque, is predominantly peated, while the other, unpeated, is sold under the distillery’s own name.

It is the Tobermory 17 Year Old that commands our attention this evening. Matured in Oloroso sherry casks, it exhibits a surprisingly light hue for such maturation and boasts an alcohol strength of 55.9%, a figure that is, all things considered, quite reasonable.

The tasting unveils initial notes of fresh almonds and dried beans. Gradually, a delicate floral character emerges, only to shift abruptly towards a finish intensely dominated by liquorice.

These sudden transitions somewhat disorient the palate during the tasting, ultimately leaving a mixed impression of disarray.
