EXOTIC SKEWER – Score: 8/10
A rather rare edition in our regions, this Yamazaki Smoky Batch is reserved for the Asian market and thus only available in very limited quantities. Through a traveling friend, I had the chance to obtain a bottle, and I must say, I have absolutely no regrets.
Once again, the price is prohibitive for the general public, but the experience is truly delightful, as this Yamazaki is beautifully balanced.
As is customary with Japanese distilleries, the whisky is silky and smooth, displaying no aggressiveness whatsoever. The balance of alcohol is impeccable, offering exotic notes of kiwi and flambéed bananas at the outset, which gradually and delicately transition into dry fruits, such as walnut. The smoke is subtle yet present, complemented by refined menthol notes, culminating in a moderately long finish.
The only regret is the finish, which feels slightly too brief, but what a feast for the palate.
