THE GARDEN OF EDEN – Score: 9/10
I always have some apprehension when it comes to Japanese whiskies because current prices are completely disconnected from the intrinsic quality of the product. In other words, the quality-to-price ratio is no longer as favorable as that of Scotch whiskies.
Take the Yamazaki 18-Year-Old, for instance, whose price has increased sixfold in recent years. So when I’m offered a taste, I strongly hope not to be disappointed.
The result is simply outstanding. It reaches the pinnacle of Japanese quality. The distillate is silky, delivering fruity notes of figs and plums. The finish lingers, bringing soft caramel to the palate.
It’s an excellent whisky, even if the price is out of reach for many consumers.
