TARTE AUX JEUNES PRUNES – Score: 7,5/10

Nous voici un soir d’hiver dans un hôtel cosy du centre-ville bruxellois – l’hôtel Amigo – qui depuis quelques années à améliorer sa carte de single malt.

Je commande donc ce Ben Nevis 1996 de chez Edition Spirits de Glasgow. A l’époque, c’était mon premier Ben Nevis et j’étais donc fort curieux de découvrir cette distillerie.

Un Refill Hogshead me laisse croire que la vanille et le côté floral sera prédominant.

Et je n’ai qu’en partie raison : de vanille, il y en a point par contre un très léger floral est présent. Mais c’est surtout le fruit qui prédomine avec une présence onctueuse et une acidité étonnante (et pas très plaisante, ça chauffe les dents) de fruits verts. La prune prédomine dans cette corbeille de fruit, voire le muscat.

Une finale légèrement boisée et acide avec une légère touche éthylique.

Sympa mais je n’en reprendrai pas

Here we are one winter evening in a cozy hotel in the city center of Brussels – the Amigo hotel – which for several years has been improving its single malt menu.

So did I order this Ben Nevis 1996 from Edition Spirits in Glasgow. At the time, it was my first Ben Nevis, so I was very curious about this distillery.

A Hogshead Refill lets me believe that the vanilla and the floral side will be predominant.

And I’m only partly right: there is no vanilla, whatsoever, a very light floral note is present. But it is above all the fruit that predominates with a smooth presence and an astonishing acidity (not very pleasant, it heats the teeth) of green fruits. Plum predominates in this fruit basket, even muscat, would I say.

A slightly woody and acid finish with a slight ethyl touch.
