THE BARREL IS FULL – Score: 6/10

Quick visit to Nivelles to meet a new whisky lover in this great and lovely brotherhood of malt. Our meeting, quite naturally, leads to the tasting of a dram.

Today it will be a 9 year old Benromach 2006 finished in red Bordeaux barrels and reduced to 45%.

The nose is fruity, even syrupy. It exhales notes of plum.

The mid palate reveals the tannic side very quickly, the candied fruits appear coated with white pepper (loads of white pepper by the way). The youth of the whisky is felt, the ethyl integration seeming weak, which gives a rather aggressive effect on the palate.

A touch of caramel in the finish gives this whisky a little superfluous delicacy. The final is not very long by the way.

In conclusion, an acceptable whisky, despite its youthful flaws, bearing in mind that Benromach only recently started the wine cask finish experiments.
