UNE FINALE IMPRESSIONNANTE POUR UN WHISKY PEU SURPRENANT – Score : 7/10
J’ai conservé cette bouteille fermée près de deux ans. Je suis un grand fan du Old Pulteney 12 ans qui, sans être un whisky de légende, est très agréable avec cette douceur iodée. Je me disais donc, naïvement, qu’en 17 ans, je devrais avoir un whisky mythique.
J’hésitais donc à ouvrir cette bouteille jusqu’à hier…. Et ma dégustation fut plutôt mitigée. D’abord, cette saveur iodée que j’espérais tant redécouvrir est très peu présente. On l’a retrouve mais de manière très fantomatique, dissimulée derrière l’agressive épice et les saveurs chocolat et fruits secs qui prédominent en entrée. Pas vraiment ma tasse de thé. La finale, par contre, est plus impressionnante de longueur. On termine sur des notes de pommes vertes et ça dure, ça dure, ça dure… au moins 10 minutes. Je pense que c’est cette finale qui me fait lui octroyer ce 7/10 car l’attaque et la bouche sont finalement très…banale.
A découvrir un jour pour les amateurs de whisky maltés et épicés.
AN IMPRESSIVE FINISH FOR A NOT SO SURPRISING WHISKY – Score: 7/10
I kept this bottle closed for almost two years. I am a big fan of the 12 year old Old Pulteney which, without being a legendary whisky, is very pleasant with this salty sweetness. So I thought, naively, that in 17 years, I should have a mythical whisky.
So I was hesitant to open this bottle until yesterday…. And my tasting was rather mixed. First of all, this salty flavor that I was so keen on rediscover is hardly present. It is there, but in a very ghostly way, hidden behind the aggressive spice and the chocolate and dried fruit flavors that predominate as a starter. Not really my cup of tea.
The finish, on the other hand, is more impressive in length. We end with notes of green apples and it lasts, it lasts, it lasts… at least 10 minutes. I think it’s this finsh that gives it the 7/10 because the beginning and the mouth feel very… mundane.
