Il ya des Laphroaig, des Springbank, des Macallan, des Ardbeg qui, rien qu’à l’évocation de leurs noms, font saliver des milliers d’amateurs de whisky.
Puis il y a des distilleries dont le nom ne dit absolument rien tel que Allt-a-Bhainne.
En effet, qui a déjà goûté un allt-a-bhainne dans sa vie ? Cette distillerie ne produit aucun whisky sous son nom propre et la quasi totalité de sa production fini dans un blend autrement plus célèbre : Chivas Regal !
Pourtant, les rares fûts échappant au terrible sort du blending laissent une belle impression.
Et cette version 2000 embouteillée par Signatory Vintage fait partie des belles surprises de cette année.
Un whisky vieilli en fût de sherry extrêmement plaisant. Une texture onctueuse mêlant le raisin à la mélasse puis vient le chocolat noir et la finale nous rappelle un belle côte à l’os charolaise. Son onctuosité briochée rappelle le cougnou aux raisins secs fourrés au chocolat.
Une belle réussite qui confirme qu’un fût bien sélectionné est important pour la réputation d’une marque.

Indeed, who has ever tasted an Allt-a-Bhainne in their life? This distillery does not produce any whisky under its own name, and almost all of its production ends up in a much more famous blend: Chivas Regal!
However, the rare casks that escape the terrible fate of blending leave a great impression.
And this 2000 vintage bottled by Signatory Vintage is one of the pleasant surprises of this year.
A whisky aged in sherry casks that is extremely enjoyable. A creamy texture blending grape with molasses, followed by dark chocolate, and the finish reminds us of a beautiful Charolais rib steak. Its brioche-like creaminess brings to mind a filled cougnou with raisins and chocolate.
A remarkable success that confirms that a well-selected cask is important for a brand’s reputation.
