En ce distingué royaume de Belgique, quelques distilleries rares ont entrepris la production de whisky afin de se joindre à la vague de ce nectar si prisé de nos jours. Parmi les plus remarquables figurent The Belgian Owl, Lambertus, Gouden Carolus et Duvel.
Cependant, c’est une micro-distillerie de la Venise du Nord qui a décidé de bousculer les “grands” de ce pays en proposant un whisky aux accents charmants.
La Brugse Whisky Company, au nom pragmatique, nous dévoile son Ryggia Inaugural, qui évoque agréablement le fût de sherry sans le mentionner explicitement.
Ce whisky âgé de 3 ans présente, tenez-vous bien, quatre finitions différentes : fût de vin rouge, fût de moscatel, fût de cognac et… fût de sirop d’érable.
Le résultat est étonnamment plaisant, avec des notes de mélasse, de pain d’épices et de tabac. Bien que jeune et légèrement piquant, il trace son chemin vers la réussite.
Ce whisky réconcilie mon palais avec les productions du plat pays qui sont, comme le célèbre penseur François Pignon le dirait, jeunes mais dynamiques.

In this esteemed realm of Belgium, a handful of select distilleries have sought to venture into the production of whisky, riding the wave of this immensely popular elixir in our times. Notably, The Belgian Owl, Lambertus, Gouden Carolus, and Duvel have made their mark.
However, there is a micro-distillery in the Venice of the North that has dared to challenge the “giants” of this land, producing a whisky with endearing nuances.
The pragmatically named “Brugse Whisky Company” presents to us its Ryggia Inaugural, exuding delightful sherry cask aromas without explicitly stating so.
A three-year-old whisky that boasts, hold your breath, four distinct finishes: red wine cask, moscatel cask, cognac cask, and… maple syrup cask.
The result is surprisingly pleasing, revealing hints of molasses, gingerbread, and tobacco. It is still young, with a hint of zest, but on the path to success.
This whisky reconciles me with the productions of the flat lands, which, as the famous thinker François Pignon would say, are youthful yet dynamic.
