UN VERGER MORIBOND – Score: 6,5/10

english version below

A DYING ORCHARD – Score: 6.5/10

From time to time, I venture into the meanders of closed distilleries and this time, I am going to discover the Coleburn distillery, which has been closed since 1985, during the last whisky crisis which saw a lot of distilleries being closed.

Coleburn never had bottles in its own name and its production was widely exploited within the blend industry, notably for Johnnie Walker’s Red Label.

However, since its closure, the barrels have been scattered among many independent bottlers, including the gigantic Gordon & MacPhail’s where the bottle that will be tasted for you this evening comes from.

The palate is very watery, little consistency in the mouth. The flavors are clearly vintage, we find honey and vanilla and a little banana, all embellished with light menthol. The finish is saline and slightly woody.

The whiskies of the seventies and eighties all have this slightly watery and honeyed profile that makes us a bit nostalgic.
