UN MALTEUR PRÉCOCE – Score: 6,5/10
Glenfiddich : j’ai une tendresse particulière pour cette distillerie qui, dans les années 1970 – en pleine crise du whisky – eut l’audace de promouvoir le Single Malt pour ne pas disparaître.
Stratégie payante pour William Grant car à présent, le Glenfiddich 12 ans est le single malt le plus vendu au monde.
Alors aujourd’hui, je m’en vais goûter cette version du triptyque “Age of Discovery” dont je possède la version vieillie en fût de Bourbon.
Un malt de 19 ans d’âge à la robe plutôt sombre, se rapprochant du vin jaune ou d’un sancerre.
Le nez est très prometteur avec de belles notes de vanille, d’orge frais, de caramel et de miel de lavande.
Au palais, ce breuvage est doux, un poil liquide (coupé à 40,0%) et sucré. On perçoit franchement les notes de vanilles et de muscat ou de riesling voire de sauternes.
Très agréable malheureusement, la longueur est trop courte, sans doute trop dilué. Je suis certain qu’une version brute de fût eut été nettement meilleure. Dommage, on y perd le principale.

Strategy paid off for William Grant because at present, Glenfiddich 12 years old is the best-selling single malt in the world.
So today, I’m going to taste this version of the “Age of Discovery” triptych of which I have the version aged in Bourbon casks.
A 19 year old malt with a rather dark color, approaching yellow wine or a sancerre.
The nose is very promising with beautiful notes of vanilla, fresh barley, caramel and lavender honey.
On the palate, this beverage is soft, a bit liquid (cut at 40.0%) and sweet. We can clearly perceive the notes of vanilla and Muscat or Riesling or even Sauternes.
Very nice unfortunately, the length is too short, probably too diluted. I am sure a cask raw version would have been significantly better. Too bad, we lose the main one.
