Décidément, pas mal de distilleries ouvrent dans les Lowlands et voici donc la petite dernière nommée Lindores Abbey.
Fondée en 2018, les experts en marketing cherchent néanmoins désespérément à accoler l’histoire de la distillerie à une légende de distillation d’Aquae Vitae locale dès 1494, ce qui en ferait la plus ancienne distillerie de whisky connue en Ecosse (et peut-être dans le monde).
En attendant les conclusions des historiens, prenons le temps de goûter cet extrait de fût de Porto titrant à 57,4%
On est loin du profil classique des lowlands avec un whisky puissant et très prononcé en goût. Les pruneaux dominent et laisse présager que du bonheur mais très vite, cela tourne à la viande cuite, la marmite poivrée pour finir avec une note fortement amère.
C’est pas extraordinaire en terme de goût et déçois un peu considérant le bel éclat rubis de la robe.

Founded in 2018, marketing pundits are nonetheless desperate to tie the distillery’s history to a legend of local Aquae Vitae distillation as far back as 1494, which would make it the oldest known whisky distillery in Scotland (and possibly in the world).
While waiting for the conclusions of historians, let’s take the time to taste this Port cask extract grading at 57.4%.
We are far from the classic profile of the lowlands with a powerful and very pronounced whisky in taste. The prunes dominate and suggest only happiness but very quickly, it turns to cooked meat, the peppery pot to finish with a strongly bitter note.
It’s not extraordinary in terms of taste and a little disappointing considering the beautiful ruby shine of the color.
