Il y a des pépites comme ça qui se cache dans certains endroits ; parfois dans des bars, parfois dans le cabinet d’un ami ; parfois dans des boutiques. Celle-ci était dans un improbable hôtel du midi de la France où le propriétaire était tout comme nous un passionné de whisky.
Au gré de nos échanges, il me sortit cette bouteille du fond de son armoire.
Un Longmorn 1965 de 46 ans d’âge vieilli dans un bon vieux fût de sherry et la couleur ne laisse planer aucun doute sur cela.
Vous me connaissez à présent, je ne me laisse point impressionner ni par l’âge, ni par l’étiquette et je rassemble donc toute mon objectivité pour goûter ce vénérable breuvage.
Un whisky d’une haute complexité réunissant tous les classiques des fûts de sherry à savoir, le cacao, les fruits rouges, les fruits confis. S’y rajoute une puissance tanique impressionnante rappelant le fond de bouteille de vin rouge.
La finale est poivrée et légèrement boisée. C’est bien fait mais peut-être un peu trop longtemps passé dans le fût, le vin aura trop marqué le whisky de son empreinte.

There are nuggets like that lurking in some places; sometimes in bars, sometimes in a friend’s office; sometimes in shops. This one was in an improbable hotel in the south of France where the owner was just like us a whisky enthusiast.
As we talked, he took this bottle out of the back of his cupboard.
A 46 year old Longmorn 1965 aged in a good old sherry cask and the color leaves no doubt about that.
You know me now, I don’t let myself be intimidated either by age or by the label and I therefore gather all my objectivity to taste this venerable beverage.
A highly complex whisky bringing together all the classics of sherry casks, namely cocoa, red fruits, candied fruits. Added to this is an impressive tannic power reminiscent of the bottom of a bottle of red wine.
The finish is peppery and slightly woody. It is well done but perhaps spent a little too long in the barrel, the wine will have marked the whisky too much.
