UN MALT A L’ANCIENNE – Score: 7/10
Le bouquet final de la dégustation collégiale avec mes amis membres du club de whisky bruxellois “The Friends of Malt” sera cette vieille bouteille des années 70 de Strathisla 8 ans d’âge.
Embouteillé par Gordon & MacPhail’s, ce jus fût distillé sous la propriété de Seagram qui en fit le coeur de son Chivas Regal. Depuis 2001, Pernod Ricard a fait l’acquisition de Chivas Brother’s et c’est donc une distillerie sous pavillon français qui produit actuellement le Single Malt que l’on connait.
Me voici donc face à ce vénérable whisky et dès le départ, on goûte la différence dans la composition. Le camphre et le bois sont présent d’entrée de jeux, suivi par quelques raisins secs, le fruit des bois confis. La finale revient sur le chêne sec.
Un beau voyage dans le temps avec ces produits beaucoup plus sec que ce que l’on produit actuellement. A découvrir.
AN OLD FASHION MALT – Score: 7/10
The final bouquet of the collegiate tasting with my friends, members of the Brussels whisky club “The Friends of Malt”, will be this old bottle from the 70s of 8-year-old Strathisla.
Bottled by Gordon & MacPhail’s, this juice was distilled under the ownership of Seagram that made it the heart of its Chivas Regal. Since 2001, Pernod Ricard has acquired Chivas Brother’s and it is therefore a French-flagged distillery that currently produces the Single Malt we know.
So here I am facing this venerable whisky and right from the start, you can taste the difference in the recipe. Camphor and wood are present at the start, followed by some sultanas, the candied forest fruit. The finish returns to dry oak.
A nice journey back in time with these products much drier than what is currently produced. To be discovered.
