UNE EXPRESSION TOTALEMENT REUSSIE – Score 9/10

Toujours dans la lignée de mes dégustations de Ardbeg dont les samples furent obtenus via mes échanges, j’ai eu l’occasion de goûter cette petite merveille.

Ardbeg Dark Cove est la version 2016 du batch annuel livré par Ardbeg. Une version vieillie en fût de “Dark Sherry” qui confère à ce breuvage toute sa rondeur.

Dark Cove, c’est l’entente cordiale, voire royale, entre le fût de sherry et la tourbe. Une combinaison difficile à calibrer et connaissant peu de réussite. Mais quand cela “match” c’est exceptionnel et ici nous en avons un parfait exemple. Nous y trouvons toute la douceur, la rondeur du sherry, l’onctuosité huileuse d’un whisky iodé, le côté médicinal typique d’Ardbeg et le poivré, l’épicé éthylique qui se combinent élégamment.

Une véritable réussite de la part de cette distillerie tellement populaire que les prix de ces embouteillages doublent dès leurs sorties.

Et dire que j’en avais une et que je l’ai vendue avant de l’avoir goûtée. Grand regret 🙁

Still in line with my tastings of Ardbeg whose samples were obtained through my exchanges, I had the opportunity to taste this little wonder.

Ardbeg Dark Cove is the 2016 version of the annual batch delivered by Ardbeg. A barrel-aged version of “Dark Sherry” which gives this beverage all its roundness.

Dark Cove is the cordial, even royal, understanding between sherry cask and peat. A combination difficult to calibrate and not very successful. But when it “matches” it’s exceptional and here we have a perfect example of that. We find there all the sweetness, the roundness of sherry, the oily smoothness of an iodized whisky, the typical medicinal side of Ardbeg and the peppery, ethyl spicy that combine elegantly.

A real success from this so popular distillery that prices of its bottlings double as soon as they are released.

To think I had one and sold it before tasting it…. Great regret 🙁
