UNE BELLE TOURBE FLORALE – Score: 8,5/10

J’ai longtemps hésité à goûté un Big Peat. Je me méfie de ces embouteillages trendy saturé de marketing. C’est donc avec une certaine curiosité que je me suis laissé tenté par cette version 2016 de la célèbre marque au barbu sous le vent.

A la couleur, on comprend vite qu’on aura pas du sherry 🙂 c’est d’une pâleur cadavérique ce malt. Une couleur digne d’un vieux New Make.

Le nez révèle une belle tourbe grasse, une touche d’iode marin, de la mousse fraîche.

Au palais, la tourbe se confirme (le contraire eut été étonnant), on garde le côté salin maritime, comme un bon saumon fraîchement coupé, la cendre est présente également et une finale élégante de tourbe blonde et d’épices. Je reconnais les notes de Caol Ila (côté floral), de Bowmore (côté iodé) et d’Ardbeg (cendré) ce qui m’épate et ne peut que me faire reconnaitre que les gens de chez Douglas Laing ont bien travaillé sur cet opus.

Il semblerait qu’une part provient également de Port Ellen. N’ayant encore jamais goûté de Port Ellen, impossible pour moi de le confirmer.

A BEAUTIFUL FLORAL PEAT – Score: 8.5 / 10

I hesitated for a long time to taste a Big Peat. I am wary of these trendy bottlers full of marketing. So it was with a certain curiosity that I let myself be tempted by this 2016 version of the famous brand with the bearded leeward.

By the color, you quickly understand that you won’t have sherry 🙂 this malt is deadly pallor. A color worthy of an old New Make.

The nose reveals a beautiful oily peat, a touch of sea iodine, fresh moss.

On the palate, the peat is confirmed (the opposite would have been surprising), we keep the maritime salty side, like a good freshly cut salmon, the ash is also present and an elegant finish of blond peat and spices. I recognize the notes of Caol Ila (floral side), Bowmore (iodized side) and Ardbeg (ashy) which amazes me and can only make me recognize that the people at Douglas Laing have worked well on this opus .

It would appear that one part is also from Port Ellen. Having never tasted Port Ellen before, I couldn’t confirm it.
