La distillerie Blair Athol n’est pas forcément la plus réputée des distilleries d’Ecosse mais à, sans doute, le bâtiment le plus joli de toute. Une belle maison cossue en pierre de pays bardée de lierres.
Néanmoins, la qualité du jus est sans doute plus importante que la beauté du bâtiment, assurément.
Blair Athol appartient à Diageo qui utilise sont distillat principalement pour l’élaboration du blend de la marque Bell’s. Mis à part la série Flora & Fauna, il n’y a pas d’embouteillage officiel de Blair Athol et cela permet donc aux embouteilleurs indépendants de s’en donner à coeur joie.
C’est l’un de ces embouteillages de l’obscure société Crom que nous avons goûter ce jour.
Un malt ayant reposé 22 ans dans un fût de chêne nous donne, sans aucune surprise, un whisky puissant, très porté sur les céréales et le miel. Rien d’étonnant donc, cela reste un malt classique sans fioriture, sans éclat. Très monotone finalement. Une finale moyenne sur le bois, une amertume légère, pas désagréable.
Rien d’emballant donc même si le breuvage n’est pas à jeter.
QUICKLY WEARY – Score: 6.5 / 10
The Blair Athol Distillery is not necessarily the most famous of all Scottish distilleries but has arguably the prettiest building of all. A beautiful opulent country stone house covered with ivy.
Nevertheless, the quality of the juice is arguably more important than the beauty of the building, for sure.
Blair Athol is owned by Diageo which uses its distillate primarily for the elaboration of the Bell’s brand blend. Aside from the Flora & Fauna series, there is no official bottling from Blair Athol and so this allows independent bottlers to have a blast.
It’s one bottle of this obscure Crom bottler company that we’ve tasted that day.
A malt that has rested 22 years in an oak barrel gives us, without any surprise, a powerful whisky, very focused on cereals and honey. No wonder then, it’s still a classic malt with no frills, no sparkle. Very monotonous after all. A medium finish on wood, a light bitterness, not unpleasant.
Nothing exciting, even if the beverage is not to be thrown away.
