LA DOUCEUR D’UNE CERISE NOIRE – Score: 8,5/10

Ce soir, on voyage, loin… très loin, du côté de Taïwan, pour découvrir l’une des révélations de ces 10 dernières années en cette distillerie asiatique Kavalan.

Lancée officiellement en 2006, elle n’a eu de cesse, depuis lors, de collectionner les prix dont celui de meilleur whisky du monde en 2015 (Kavalan Vinho) et 2016 (Kavalan Amontillado).

Alors bien sûr, si vous me lisez depuis, vous savez ce que je pense des prix et autres fantaisistes distinction marketing. Dès lors, cela ne me m’influencera guère lors de la dégustation.

C’est un ami et client qui m’a permis de goûter cette petite merveille lors d’une livraison de deux Kilchoman en son domicile.

Et c’est une belle découverte, assurément, que je lui dois. Un whisky bien équilibré, doux malgré ses quasi 58% d’alcool, des notes savoureuses de cerises noires, d’épices et de poivre Sichuan. La finale est longue, sur le chocolat aux noisettes et tout ceci sans aucune once d’amertume ce qui est fort appréciable.

On regrettera tout de même une absence de diversité dans les saveurs mais c’est vraiment pinailler.

Je recommande aux amateurs de sherry casks

THE SWEETNESS OF A DARK CHERRY – Score: 8.5 / 10

Tonight, we are traveling, far … far away, to Taiwan, to discover one of the revelations of the past 10 years in this Asian distillery named Kavalan.

Officially launched in 2006, it has been continuously collecting awards since then, including the best whisky of the world in 2015 (Kavalan Vinho) and 2016 (Kavalan Amontillado).

Well, if you’ve read me since then you should know what I think about pricing and other fancy marketing distinctions. Therefore, that will hardly have an influence on me during the tasting.

It was a friend and customer who allowed me to taste this little wonder during a delivery of two Kilchomans to his home.

And it’s a great discovery, indeed, that I owe him. A well-balanced whisky, smooth despite its almost 58% alcohol, tasty notes of black cherries, spices and Sichuan pepper. The finish is long, on chocolate with hazelnuts and all this without any bitterness which is very appreciable.

We will still regret the lack of diversity in flavors, but it’s really nitpicking.
