THE CHERRY ON THE CAKE – Score: 8/10
Kavalan (named after a people from the island of Taiwan) is undoubtedly one of the best distilleries outside of Scotland when it comes to whisky, with its consistently perfectly executed finishes. At least, that’s been the case with the few bottles I’ve had the pleasure of tasting so far.
Tonight, I have a 5-year-old Kavalan aged in Oloroso sherry casks that I propose to share with you.
The palate is rich, offering us multiple delectable flavors of marzipan and leather, vanilla and candied cherries. The finish is very subtly woody and slightly peppery but without any aggressiveness.
Once again, it’s a resounding success for this 2017 bottling and reaffirms all the praise I have for this exotic distillery.
