A BUTTERFLY IN A WORLD OF BRUTES – Score: 8/10
Can we do without Lagavulin in the world of malt? I don’t think so! Lagavulin is an institution that has managed to establish its style and trademark worldwide. Many novices have embraced peat thanks to the legendary Lagavulin 16 years old.
But in the Lagavulin family, few are familiar with the annual series of 12-year-olds aged exclusively in bourbon barrels and delivered cask strength.
The 2010 version is a great success, by far. The richness of flavors is simply prodigious.
The texture is silky and oily like butter. Vanilla is beautifully and prominently present, providing the necessary contrast to the subtle bitterness of the bark and the earthiness of the peat.
A surprisingly iodized whisky that one would expect to find at Bowmore.
