A STROLL THROUGH A COFFEE ROASTER – Score: 9/10
Balblair earned its reputation following the English societal film “Angel’s Share,” where the protagonist acquaints himself with whisky by tasting a Balblair.
Until recently, Balblair, much like Glenrothes, delivered vintages. However, it has now fallen in line by producing age statements.
Tonight, we won’t be sampling an official bottling, but rather a version delivered by the equally esteemed house Blackadder.
This ten-year-old expression, aged in sherry casks, is presented to us, as is their custom, cask strength at 57.8% ABV.
The result is simply exceptional, with warm notes of mulled wine, leather, and tobacco, where the alcohol is surprisingly discreet.
The finish is equally balanced, leading us towards coffee and fine wood.
It’s an outstanding selection (once again) from Blackadder and a must-have for sherry bomb enthusiasts.
