De retour dans l’un des meilleurs restaurants italiens de Bruxelles, la Senza, et son sympathique patron, Nicolas, ayant sans doute l’une des plus belles offres de whisky et de gin de la zone est de Bruxelles.
Après un repas enchanteur, ce dernier me propose de goûter l’une de ses trouvailles, ce Balblair 2002 de 18 embouteillé par Elixir Distillers nous offrant une belle variation de ce whisky devenu mythique suite au film “La part des anges” consacrée au whisky et dont la distillerie est à l’honneur.
Nous sommes sur un brut de fût titrant à 51,7% vieilli en fût traditionnel Hogshead sans finish particulier.
Sa texture soyeuse et onctueuse donne déjà une belle indication sur la qualité du produit. Cela enveloppe délicatement le palais laissant libre court aux saveurs de fruits secs (noisettes, raisins,…) et aux épices (poivre, menthol). L’équilibre éthylique est presque parfait et la finale pointe vers le chêne vert et quelques notes vaporeuse de zeste d’orange amère.
Belle découverte m’encourageant, si cela était nécessaire, à revenir une fois encore à la Senza

Back to one of the best Italian restaurants in Brussels, La Senza, and its friendly boss, Nicolas, with arguably one of the finest whisky and gin offers in the eastern area of Brussels.
After an enchanting meal, the latter offers me to taste one of his finds, this Balblair 2002 18 years old bottled by Elixir Distillers offering us a beautiful variation of this whisky which has become legendary following the film “Angel’s share” devoted to whiske and whose distillery is in the spotlight.
We are on a cask strength grading 51.7% aged in traditional Hogshead barrels without any particular finish.
Its silky and creamy texture already gives a good indication of the quality of the product. This delicately envelops the palate, giving free rein to the flavors of dried fruits (hazelnuts, grapes, etc.) and spices (pepper, menthol). The ethyl balance is almost perfect and the finish points towards holm oak and some vaporous notes of bitter orange zest.
Nice discovery encouraging me, if necessary, to come back once again to the Senza
