L’ambassadeur de la distillerie Wolfburn – Mark Westmorland – étant de passage dans ma région, je profite bien entendu pour participer à la séance de découverte des whiskies de cette distillerie du grand nord de l’Ecosse.
Nous débutons par le Wolfburn Morven, vieilli en fût de bourbon et dont on nous annonce qu’il serait légèrement tourbé.
Je confirme que la tourbe est présente, de manière assez fugace, j’en conviens. Les notes sont plutôt potagères avec du chicon, de la terre fraîche, de l’anis. La texture huileuse est plutôt poivrée donnant une désagréable sensation en bouche.
L’équilibre éthylique est clairement défavorable et le côté terreux bien trop présent pour rendre ce whisky attrayant.
Je pose mon verre en silence sans donner de commentaire. Toujours délicat de dire à un ambassadeur que le whisky n’est pas à votre goût alors mieux vaut se taire.
A GRANDMOTHER’S WHISKY – Score: 6/10
With the Wolfburn distillery ambassador, Mark Westmorland, passing through my region, I naturally take the opportunity to participate in the tasting session of whiskies from this northern Scottish distillery.
We begin with the Wolfburn Morven, aged in bourbon casks and it’s announced to us that it’s slightly peated.
I can confirm that the peat is indeed present, albeit rather fleetingly, I must admit. The notes are rather earthy, with hints of chicory, fresh soil, and anise. The oily texture is quite peppery, creating an unpleasant sensation on the palate.
The alcoholic balance is clearly unfavorable, and the earthy aspect is far too dominant to make this whisky appealing.
I quietly set my glass down without offering any comment. It’s always delicate to tell an ambassador that the whisky doesn’t suit your taste, so it’s best to remain silent.
