UN AUCHENTOSHAN SULFUREUX – Score: 6,5/10
Poursuivant sur la lancée des samples fournis par whiskybase, une nouvelle expression d’un Auchentoshan embouteillée par Gordon & Company sous le label “Pearls of Scotland”.
Cette version du fût 2197 ayant précédemment contenu du sherry ne donnera pas plus de satisfaction que les précédentes testées récemment.
Encore une fois, le choix du fût de sherry me semble hasardeux car peu d’impact positif sur le malt.
En bouche, on y décèle quelques notes fruitées (pommes, poires, pêches) mais trop enveloppées dans un souffre omniprésent et une agressivité éthylique bien trop présente.
La finale est amère et longue, ce qui n’est jamais trop agréable.
En coupant légèrement avec de l’eau, on réduit cette agressivité et parvient à réduire la présence sulfureuse et les arômes fruités peuvent alors prendre tout leur potentiel. Ce qui sauve ce whisky d’une note plus sévère.

Continuing the momentum of samples provided by whiskybase, a new expression of an Auchentoshan bottled by Gordon & Company under the “Pearls of Scotland” label.
This version of cask #2197 having previously contained sherry will not give more satisfaction than the previous ones tested recently.
Once again, the choice of this sherry cask seems risky to me because it has little positive impact on the malt.
On the palate, we detect some fruity notes (apples, pears, peaches) but too wrapped in an omnipresent sulfur and an ethyl aggressiveness far too present.
The finish is bitter and long, which can never be too pleasant.
By lightly cutting with water, we reduce this aggressiveness and manage to reduce the sulphurous presence and the fruity aromas can then take on their full potential.
Which saves this whisky from a harsher note.
