UN WHISKY SANS TRANSCENDANCE – Score: 6/10
Un Balvenie de 17 ans doublement vieilli à la fois dans un fût de chêne américain et un fût de sherry. Cette combinaison intéressante et ô combien prometteuse en douceur et en puissance laisse rêveuse tout aficionado de ce genre de malt.
Dès lors, c’est avec un intérêt certain que je me suis lancé dans cette dégustation.
Las, c’est une déception qui viendra poindre son nez dans ce whisky par trop banal. Aucune originalité. Du chocolat ? Oui, il y en a. Du fruit rouge? Egalement. De la vanille ? Assurément. Mais le tout manquant cruellement de finesse, d’équilibre, de panache. Et quand la finale pointe son nez, c’est pour nous laisser une saveur pleine d’amertume.
Un whisky décevant, disais-je, de par les promesses non tenues. Mauvais il n’est point, mais l’attente était peut être trop haute et plus dure sera la chute.

A 17 year old Balvenie doubly aged in both an American oak barrel and a sherry barrel. This interesting and oh so promising combination of sweetness and power leaves any aficionado of this kind of malt dreaming.
Therefore, it is with a certain interest that I embarked on this tasting.
Alas, it is a disappointment that will arise in this too banal whisky. No originality. Chocolate ? Yes there is. Red fruit? Also. Vanilla? Certainly. But all sorely lacking in finesse, balance and panache. And when the finish points its nose, it is to leave us with a flavor full of bitterness.
A disappointing whisky, I said, with broken promises. It isn’t that bad, but the expectations might be too high and so the harder the fall.
