CARAMEL BEURRE POIVRE – Score: 7,5/10

Après une longue trève, je suis de retour dans le petit monde des dégustations avec, pour poursuivre sur ma lancée, un Kilchoman 100% Islay, la version inaugurale.

Le whisky de Kilchoman est très régulièrement jeune (normal, me direz-vous, cette distillerie a à peine 17 ans d’existence) et cette version a tout juste 3 ans, soit le minimum légal pour porter l’appellation scotch whisky.

Vieillie en fût de bourbon (neuf et ancien), la texture est relativement aqueuse, nous apportant ses effluves vanillées traditionnelles.

Viennent ensuite des notes plus iodées, beurrées et tourbées que l’on retrouve habituellement chez Caol Ila. Une pointe de cannelle et un final légèrement poivré termine une dégustation relativement positive.

La finale est moyenne ce qui est une belle indication de qualité pour un whisky aussi jeune et démontre que les maîtres distillateurs de Kilchoman savent ce qu’ils font.

PEPPERED BUTTER CARAMEL – Score: 7.5/10

After a long truce, I am back in the small world of tastings with, to continue my momentum, a Kilchoman 100% Islay, the inaugural version.

Kilchoman whisky is usually young (normal, you might say, this distillery is barely 17 years old) and this version is just 3 years old, which is the minimum legal age to bear the appellation Scotch whisky.

Aged in bourbon barrels (new and old), the texture is relatively watery, bringing us its traditional vanilla scents.

Then come more iodized, buttery and peaty notes that are usually found in Caol Ila. A hint of cinnamon and a slightly peppery finish ends a relatively positive tasting.

The finish is medium which is a good indication of quality for such a young whisky and shows that the master distillers of Kilchoman know what they are doing.
