UN COUP DE RACINE DANS LES DENTS – Score: 2/10

Certains disent qu’étant collectionneur de Kilchoman, je pourrais manquer d’objectivité quant à la qualité des produits de ma distillerie favorite.

Il n’en est rien : je note aussi sévèrement Kilchoman que toutes les autres distilleries. J’ai toujours pensé qu’il fallait être honnête en toute circonstance et d’autant plus avec ce que l’on aime.

Bouddha a dit “Prend celui qui te montre tes défauts comme celui qui t’offre un trésor”. Ainsi, je n’hésite nullement à dire quand il faut les défauts d’un whisky.

Et clairement, ce Kilchoman embouteillé en 2009 de trois fûts de bourbons différents est un cuisant échec de la part de Kilchoman.

Le style Kilchoman est toujours présent (tourbe, fumé) mais s’y ajoute des notes herbeuses rappelant une mauvaise absinthe mielleuse. L’équilibre éthylique est catastrophique avec une forte présence de poivre blanc et d’épices. La finale est longue sur une forte présence de racine amère envahissant le palais et anihilant toute autre saveur.

Grosse, grosse déception pour cet assemblage.

Some say that being a collector of Kilchoman, I could lack objectivity as to the quality of the products of my favorite distillery.

This is not the case: I rate Kilchoman as severely as all the other distilleries. I have always thought that you have to be honest in all circumstances and even more so with what you love.

Buddha said “Take the one who shows you your faults as the one who offers you a treasure“. Thus, I do not hesitate to say when it is necessary the faults of a whisky.

And clearly, this Kilchoman, bottled in 2009 from three different bourbon casks, is a complete failure from Kilchoman.

The Kilchoman style is still present (peat, smoky) but is added grassy notes reminiscent of a bad honeyed absinthe. The ethyl balance is catastrophic with a strong presence of white pepper and spices. The finish is long with a strong presence of bitter root invading the palate and annihilating any other flavor.
