Kilchoman 2008 5 years – cask #392-394/2008

ON FROLE LA PERFECTION TOURBEE – Score: 9,5/10

english version below

WE’RE CLOSE TO THE PERFECTION OF THE PEAT – Score: 9.5 / 10

A nice fellow member of the Highlander’s club one day orders from me, like a joke, a peaty whisky as he would like to discover the peat.

Being, as everyone knows, a big fan of Kilchoman, I therefore suggest that he take this 2008 5 year old Kichoman finished in sherry casks especially for the German market.

So did I bring him this bottle and he kindly offered me to taste it with him (indeed, whisky lovers are real gentlemen – at least in Belgium and Luxemburg where I have had the opportunity to often meet them) .

And so my friends, stars started to dance in my mouth and in my head. This nectar is simply wonderful. First of all, this texture as smooth as sweet almond oil, this perfect ethyl balance sparing your palate from those minty hints that some young whiskies are used to getting you.

Then comes the musky and fruity notes of the sherry finish, not overwhelming for a sub but sufficiently present to delight you. Here the smoke gradually settles, still intermixed with dark fruits and tobacco.

We are heading slowly but surely towards the final which explodes like fireworks: honey, vanilla, chocolate, lemon balm and that typical Kilchoman ash.

Thank you Yves for allowing me to share this splendid malt with you.
