Qu’il est doux d’être membre du club “The Friends of Malt”… on y fréquente, tout d’abord, que des gentlemen (et quelque rare lady) d’une intelligence rare et d’un raffinement exceptionnel, ayant un savoir-vivre hors du commun.
Et je ne dis pas cela parce qu’à chaque fois que je leur rends visite, ils ont le bon goût de me proposer un petit dram.
C’est donc chez l’un de nos membres que j’ai pu goûter ce Kilchoman Vintage 2009 de 8 ans d’âge.
Ce breuvage réduit à 46% pour la circonstance et vieilli en fûts d’Oloroso et de Bourbon semble bien alléchant.
Niveau texture, rien à dire : c’est un Kilchoman et le travail est toujours impeccable à ce niveau. Un whisky rond, huileux, tapissant les muqueuses avec douceur.
Par contre, déçu par une violente amertume digne (pour ceux ayant goûter à cette racine) de l’iboga. Les quelques rares incursions vanillées sont totalement annihilées par la tourbe fumée d’une part et la puissance amère du bois de l’autre.
Bien dommage, sans doute le moins bon millésime de Kilchoman que j’ai pu goûter jusqu’à présent.

How sweet it is to be a member of the club “The Friends of Malt”… There, we meet gentlemen (and some rare lady) of rare intelligence and exceptional refinement, with extraordinary manners.
And I’m not saying that because every time I visit them, they have the good taste to offer me a little dram.
So it was at one of our member’s home that I was able to taste this 8 year old Kilchoman Vintage 2009.
This beverage reduced to 46% for the occasion and aged in Oloroso and Bourbon barrels seems very enticing.
Texture wise, nothing to say: it is a Kilchoman and the work is always flawless. A round, oily whisky, gently lining the mucous membranes.
On the other hand, disappointed by a harsh bitterness reminiscent (for those who have tasted this root) of iboga. The few rare vanilla forays are completely annihilated by the smoky peat on one hand and the bitter power of the wood on the other.
Too bad, probably the worst Kilchoman vintage I have tasted so far.
