Kilchoman a satisfait à la tradition de l’île d’Islay en concevant une version spéciale célébrant la fête de l’île annuellement.
Ce soir, je goûterai donc la version 2021 de Kilchoman dont la moyenne d’âge est de huit ans.
Cette version est un mélange de huit fûts dont six sont un vieillissement de bourbon et les deux autres de Oloroso.
Autant le dire tout de suite, (mais vous l’aurez deviner au score), je n’ai pas aimé du tout cette version que j’ai trouvée mal équilibrée tant en terme de saveur qu’en terme éthylique.
Les notes de cerises se mélangent mal à la tourbe moins fumée que d’habitude. Une texture huileuse rappelant la paraffine nous submerge le palais de saveurs boisées très amères. La finale reste sur une amertume bien trop prononcée se conjuguant avec le poivre de l’alcool.
Fort peu satisfait de cette version, je n’en reste pas moins un grand admirateur de cette distillerie.

Kilchoman has fulfilled the tradition of the Isle of Islay by designing a special version celebrating the island festival annually.
Tonight, I will therefore taste the 2021 version of Kilchoman whose average age is eight years.
This release is a blend of eight barrels of which six are bourbon aging and the other two Oloroso.
Let’s say it right away, (but you will have guessed it by the score), I did not like this version at all which I found poorly balanced both in terms of flavor and in terms of alcohol.
The cherry notes mix poorly with the less smoky peat than usual. An oily texture reminiscent of paraffin overwhelms the palate with very bitter woody flavors. The finish remains on a much too pronounced bitterness combined with the pepper of the alcohol.
Very unsatisfied with this version, I remain a great admirer of this distillery, anyway.
