SEUL SUR UNE ILE – Score: 7/10
Petit tour du côté de l’une de mes distilleries favorites nommée Laphroaig. J’adore sa signature tourbée médiciniale reconnaissable entre toutes.
Le Laphroaig 10 ans reste pour moi l’un des meilleurs whisky d’entrée de gamme de l’histoire. Enfin jusqu’en 2010 et le nouvel embouteillage qui a réduit le Laphroaig 10 ans qu’à l’ombre de lui-même.
Mais ceci est une autre histoire. Je vais vous parler du Laphroaig Cairdeas produit pour la Feis ile de 2016 et vieilli en fût de Madère.
Le fût de madère apporte généralement des saveurs plutôt sucrées au whisky et cela ne dérogera pas à la règle sur ce Laphroaig qui se voit sérieusement dénaturé selon moi.
La trame typique de Laphroaig est réduite à la portion congrue alors que les notes de sirop d’orgeat et de bonbons sont mises en avant. La fumée est anecdotique tout comme l’herbe grasse qui se dissimule sous le tapis.
Un bon whisky pour les amateurs de ce genre de profil. C’est bien fait mais mieux vaut ne pas connaître Laphroaig avant pour ne pas être déçu.
LOST ON AN ISLAND – Score: 7/10
Let’s take a look at one of my favorite distilleries, Laphroaig. I love its distinctive peaty and medicinal flavor, which is recognizable among all whiskies.
For me, the Laphroaig 10-year-old is still one of the best entry-level whiskies in history, at least until 2010, when the new bottling reduced the Laphroaig 10-year-old to a shadow of its former self.
But that’s another story. Let me tell you about the Laphroaig Cairdeas produced for the 2016 Feis Ile and aged in Madeira casks.
Madeira casks usually bring rather sweet flavors to the whisky, and this Laphroaig is no exception, but, in my opinion, it seriously deviates from the typical Laphroaig profile.
The typical Laphroaig character is greatly reduced, while the notes of barley syrup and candy are highlighted. The smoke is anecdotal, as is the grassy flavor that is hidden under the carpet.
It’s a good whisky for fans of this kind of profile. It’s well done, but it’s better not to know Laphroaig before trying it to avoid disappointment.
