Nouvelle tentative de trouver un Octomore ayant grâce à mon palais avec cet Octomore de 2008 titrant à un respectable 61,8% et vieilli en fût de bourbon et de chêne vierge américain.
Le chêne vierge américain apporte souvent de belles notes vanillées et cela n’est pas pour me déplaire dans un whisky tourbé.
Et bien dans cet Octomore, point de vanille. Il n’y en aura pas un iota tout au long de la dégustation. Mais il n’en sera pas déplaisant pour autant. Je dois même dire qu’il est plutôt agréable à boire avec des notes très variées.
Le début est plutôt léger, sur la fleur des champs et le miel. Puis vient le lourd avec une saveur plus carnée de viande sèchée, de marmite, de poivre de cayenne..
Si je l’avais bu à l’aveugle, j’aurais pu le confondre avec un Laphroaig tellement le côté fumé et herbeux ressort de cette tourbe atypique pour un Octomore.
Sans doute cette proximité avec l’une de mes distilleries préférées me fait apprécié cet Octomore.

New attempt to find an Octomore that pleases my palate with this 2008 Octomore, which has a respectable 61.8% ABV and has been aged in bourbon and virgin American oak casks.
American virgin oak often brings beautiful vanilla notes, and that is not displeasing to me in a peated whisky.
However, in this Octomore, there is no trace of vanilla. Not a single iota throughout the tasting. But it is still enjoyable. I must even say that it is quite pleasant to drink with very diverse notes.
The beginning is rather light, with meadow flowers and honey. Then comes the heavy part with a more meaty flavor of dried meat, broth, cayenne pepper…
If I had tasted it blind, I could have mistaken it for a Laphroaig because of the smoky and grassy aspect of this atypical peat for an Octomore.
Undoubtedly, this closeness to one of my favorite distilleries makes me appreciate this Octomore.
