Nous revenons sur la série de Arran avec cette version embouteillée par un obscur embouteilleur écossais du nom de Douglas of Drumlanrig. Cet embouteilleur est en fait une marque appartenant à Hunter Laing (ou Douglas Laing) lui-même racheter par un groupe américain appelé International Spirits & Wines (ISWUSA).

Pour faire court, la marque Douglas of Drumlanrig était la marque des fûts moins intéressants acheté par Hunter Laing. Sachant que cet embouteilleur privilégie les meilleurs fûts pour sa collection phare, Old & Rare.

Néanmoins, il peut arriver que dans le lot, de belles surprises apparaissent. Et c’est le cas de ce Arran 1997 de 15 ans d’âge vieilli en fût de porto.

Au premier abord, je l’avoue, je n’ai pas trop apprécier ce whisky. Je le trouvais trop agressif, trop épicés. Mais avec le temps, l’oxygénation j’ai découvert un whisky atypique, agréable même, une balance entre le céréalier et le poivré qui était juste parfaite. Une finale sucrée et vineuse longue et élégante.

Un whisky a prendre donc avec patience et lui laisser le temps de s’ouvrir à vous.

We return to the Arran series with this version bottled by an obscure Scottish bottler by the name of Douglas of Drumlanrig. This bottler is actually a brand owned by Hunter Laing (or Douglas Laing) itself bought out by an American group called International Spirits & Wines (ISWUSA).

In short, the Douglas of Drumlanrig brand was the less interesting casks that Hunter Laing bought. Knowing that this bottler favors the best barrels for its flagship collection, Old & Rare.

Nevertheless, it can happen that in the lot, nice surprises appear. And this is the case with this 15 year old Arran 1997 aged in port barrels.

At first sip, I admit it, I didn’t like this whisky too much. I found it too aggressive, too spicy. But over time an oxygenation, I discovered an atypical whisky, even pleasant, a balance between the cereal and the peppery which was just perfect. A long and elegant sweet and vinous finish.

Take this whisky with patience and give it the time to open up to you.
